After a few chats and advice from other photographers and a bit of shopping around to get the right price, I went for the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8.

The lens itself is a great piece of glass, with sturdy build quality and excellent depth of field when on a low aperture. The focal point is really sharp too, I think the only thing I noticed which was a pain, was when filming action shots, the auto-focus was a tad slow, but there’s obviously ways to get around that.

I took the lens to a couple places, first of all I took it on a dog walk to try out the movement/focus/action shot side of things for when my dog was running towards me etc. I then took it on a shoot of my friends car, which was much easier because it was parked….
I then took it on holiday with hopes of taking a lot of portrait style pictures etc., but I ended up just having fun on holiday and not taking camera out most of the time….

That said, I have chosen a few shots from those times to edit a bit and I am pretty happy with how they turned out, so I guess you can say I’m pretty happy with my purchase!

<fb:like href="http://rosspenny.co.uk/blog/?p=288" action="like" colorscheme="light" layout="button_count" size="small"></fb:like>

Recently I have been asked to shoot a few weddings and parties, and it occurred to me as I only use one camera body, that using prime lenses can be a bit of a pain in the ass when you don’t have the time to set up the perfect shot or move around much.

So […]

[1
