It’s been a while since I’ve done an edit, probably about a year, so I was a little rusty…
That said, this was the 6th year theLAB have been to NASS, the 5th year I had worked for them and also the 5th NASS edit for theLAB to come from me, so it’s a pretty special one really.
NASS 2015 brought some of the craziest BMX riding I’ve ever seen. From some ridiculous tech tricks, to airing 16ft out the top of a huge ramp and touching the ceiling. I did my best to capture and put in this video a lot of the highlights, but there are some I regrettable missed, such as the first double flair pulled in a competition by Ryan Taylor which was insane and the Best Trick contest, as I was attempting to jump my car so I could have a chance of getting home.
Needless to say, the weekend was pretty amazing as always, so sit back, watch, and hopefully enjoy NASS 2015 as if though the eyes of theLAB.

Recently I have been asked to shoot a few weddings and parties, and it occurred to me as I only use one camera body, that using prime lenses can be a bit of a pain in the ass when you don’t have the time to set up the perfect shot or move around much.
So a couple months back I started to do some research online for a decent low aperture zoom lens and the choices were high and ranged in prices dramatically. After a few chats and advice from other photographers and a bit of shopping around to get the right price, I went for the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8.
The lens itself is a great piece of glass, with sturdy build quality and excellent depth of field when on a low aperture. The focal point is really sharp too, I think the only thing I noticed which was a pain, was when filming action shots, the auto-focus was a tad slow, but there’s obviously ways to get around that.
I took the lens to a couple places, first of all I took it on a dog walk to try out the movement/focus/action shot side of things for when my dog was running towards me etc. I then took it on a shoot of my friends car, which was much easier because it was parked….
I then took it on holiday with hopes of taking a lot of portrait style pictures etc., but I ended up just having fun on holiday and not taking camera out most of the time….
That said, I have chosen a few shots from those times to edit a bit and I am pretty happy with how they turned out, so I guess you can say I’m pretty happy with my purchase!
I haven’t done a write up in a while, so I’m a bit rusty at this….
Rucksack Society is a clothes shop that has opened on Wote Street in Basingstoke by a bunch of guys who were obviously sick of the only places to buy clothes in Basingstoke being Topman and Primark…
Rucksack Society is a street wear store stocking brands such as The Hundreds, HUF, Diamond Supply co, Thrasher, Grizzly, Primitive, The Quiet Life, Brixton, Mitchell&Ness, Majestic, Lakai, LRG, , REBEL8, theLAB, Crep Protect. Check out their website right HERE.
These boys took it upon themselves to contact us at theLAB when they were opening and asked to sell our stuff, which obviously, we were more than welcoming to. Since then, they have regularly got stock from us including a few new exclusive items, just for their shop, that we don’t actually sell ourselves.
The contacted us at the start of the year telling us that they were having a collaboration evening at the end of February where they would be getting designs from a few local artists to be making a very small line of LTD edition T-shirts and they asked us if we wanted to come up with a design too. We were very keen with this, especially as the artists that they had asked are all close friends of theLAB.
One morning, Lil man sent me a text whilst I was walking the dog and asked if I had any ideas for the shirt, so I talked to the guys and we all came up with a few rough designs to pitch to the boys at Rucksack. They came back with a favourite…. and I guess the rest is history.
The night itself was a good night, from 6-8pm, with a decent turn out. Capri Suns, Lollypops and refreshments were even on offer, so if you came down, you were right spoilt.
Rucksack created 10 LTD own brand shirts, as well as the ones they made up for the artists on the night. The artists consisted of were Bill Thorpe (Dirty30), Alex Simpson (co-incidentally also the guy that does pretty much all my tattoos) and Lee “Nzie” Baker (a graffiti artist, that has also done some work for me). With all the Artists and theLAB there, it brought in quite a decent crowd, and with the LTD range of 60 odd shirts (between all 5 designs), after the event was over, there must’ve only been around 25 shirts left – Which are available either in store or on the Rucksack Society website – but once they’re gone, THEY’RE GONE so snap them up now, while you still can.
So come down to Basingstoke and check out the store, because it’s certainly one of a kind. Also, with the local MP and Newspaper coming down to the event, this event was quite a success, so hopefully you should be hearing about quite a few in the future, so keep an eye out!
Not that anyone actually reads my blog on this website or anything….. but it did suddenly occur to me, I haven’t updated much recently.
This is mainly due to the fact I had another knee surgery (I’m pretty sure I mentioned I’ve had more problems in an earlier post), but also due to the fact I haven’t really had much to post about.
I post on instagram a few times a week, which probably gets more action than my blog, so you can always follow me there or have a nosey – INSTAGRAM LINK.
But other than that, the most interesting thing that I’ve actually been doing is probably the fact I got a puppy, thats how interesting my life gets at the moment due to my knee injury… So have some photo’s of my new puppy, because of course I took pictures of him… (I am a photographer after all).
His name is Opie, obviously named after Sons Of Anarchy, and he’s a Husky x Labrador, or a Huskador, or a Siberian Labrador… Whatever you want to call him, he’s gorgeous – just like his dad (me).
These photos were taken the day we got him when he was about 2 months old, but he is now 4 months old and about twice the size already, so he’s gonna be big, but just as cute.
July can be a pretty busy month usually for theLAB and this year was no different, with NASS last weekend, we decided to do something a little different and go to FittedUK, which was a brand new car show up at Wetherby Racecourse.
For a brand new show, the turn out was pretty incredible, the location was huge and the cars were spot on.
Yet again just like NASS, I was still slightly disabled, so I didn’t get the best footage due to not being able to walk properly, but what I did get, I put into this edit……. One of my longer edits, so if you can st through the next 6 and a half minutes, I’d be very appreciative.
Naturally, as always, I had Lil Man assisting me with the GoPro while I was filming, to get the shots I didn’t…. So I better credit him for that in case he gets upset…
